What happens during mediation?

Mediation begins with introductions, a review of the process, and ground rules. Each participant then has an opportunity to share their perspective without interruption. The mediator guides the discussion to help identify issues, explore possible solutions, and work toward a mutually acceptable agreement. If an agreement is reached, it is documented at the end of the session.

Mediators may also use private sessions (“caucus”) to meet with each participant individually as needed.
