Can a state employee be paid for extra services in a second state job?

Generally, no. State officers or employees paid at fixed compensation cannot be paid for extra services in an ex-officio or other capacity.

Exceptions:

  • Qualified interpreters of the deaf
  • Employees whose total annual income from their primary state employment, including overtime, is less than $8,000

Employees meeting these criteria may hold a part-time position requiring no more than four (4) hours of active duty per working day.
