Eligible employees may use sick leave for:
- Personal illness or disability from an accident
- Exposure to a contagious disease
- Pregnancy or childbirth (see Chapter 13, Parental Leave)
- Adoption (bonding period)
- Medical or dental appointments
- Illness, medical care, or death of a family member
Family members include:
- Spouse
- Children (biological, unborn, adopted, foster, step, or legal ward)
- Parents
- Others with a close relationship, if approved by the appointing authority
