How is leave handled for inclement weather?

Employees should decide if it’s safe to travel. Time missed is charged to comp, annual leave, or leave without pay if no balances remain. Employees who leave home at the normal time and arrive within a reasonable period should not be required to use leave.

If the Governor (or designee) closes state offices in a county, affected employees receive administrative leave with pay for scheduled hours. Employees who must work during a closure earn regular comp time for hours worked up to their schedule, and overtime beyond that per FLSA status. Part-time employees are not eligible for admin leave or comp time. Employees already on approved leave continue charging that leave.

Recordkeeping (closures):

  • ADMIW (Administrative Leave for Inclement Weather) when offices close
  • RIWS1/2/3 (Regular Inclement Weather Shift 1/2/3) for those required to work shifts during closures

AWS: Employees already scheduled to work from home via AWS must continue working if possible. For Mobile Work AWS on closure days, the appointing authority may allow discretionary leave with pay or require remote work.
