What are the types of disciplinary action?

  1. Verbal Warning
    • Given for minor issues
    • Documented but not placed in your personnel file
  2. Written Warning
    • Given for more serious or repeated issues
    • Goes in your file and may be reviewed by the Appointing Authority
    • Can be removed from your file after 2 years if no further issues occur
  3. Suspension Without Pay
    • Can last up to 30 calendar days in a 12-month period
    • May be extended with approval during an appeal process
  4. Demotion
    • You may be moved to a lower position if unable to perform your job or due to serious conduct issues
  5. Dismissal
    • You may be let go for serious or ongoing performance or conduct problems
    • Preferred service employees get 10 days paid notice (not required during probation)
