Who runs the executive branch?

The executive branch of Tennessee State Government is led by the Governor, who holds “supreme executive power” of the State as outlined in the State constitution. The Governor administers laws, mandates, and programs created by the General Assembly and oversees the delivery of a wide range of services to citizens.

 

The executive branch includes:

  • 22 Cabinet-level departments (each led by a Commissioner)
  • Various boards, agencies, and councils
