What happens to my annual leave when I separate from state service?

If you separate from TN State Government, you'll get a lump sum payment for your unused annual leave - unless you're dismissed for gross misconduct.

If you leave within your first year of employment and you’ve used more annual leave than you've earned (based on months worked):

  • Your final paycheck will be reduced (within federal minimum wage limits).
  • Your credited service time will also be reduced by that amount.
