What documentation must a spouse or surviving spouse submit?

To receive Veterans’ Preference, a spouse or surviving spouse must provide documentation supporting their eligibility.

A spouse of a veteran must provide documentation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the military showing that the veteran has a 100% service-connected disability or is permanently and totally disabled. Disability documentation must verify the disability, when the disability occurred, and the determined percentage of disability.

A surviving spouse must provide documentation showing the date of the veteran’s death, that the veteran died in the line of duty, and that the surviving spouse has not remarried.

Spouses and surviving spouses must also provide documentation demonstrating that they meet the applicable Tennessee residency requirements.

All required documentation must be submitted or available in the applicant account being used before the job posting’s closing date.
