To receive Veterans’ Preference, applicants must submit documentation that verifies their eligibility.
Examples of acceptable documentation include:
- DD Form 214 showing an honorable discharge;
- Statement of Service for active-duty military members; or
- Other official documentation verifying an honorable discharge.
Spouses and surviving spouses may be required to provide additional documentation to establish eligibility for Veterans’ Preference.
Once the required Veterans' Preference documentation is uploaded and reviewed before the job posting’s closing date, the applicant’s veteran status may be updated to Verified Veteran. After the status is verified, the applicant does not need to continue uploading the same veteran documentation for future applications using that applicant account.
However, it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the required Veterans’ Preference documentation is attached to the applicant account they are using, especially when transitioning between external, internal, or newly created applicant accounts.
For more information, review DOHR Policy 12-007 Veterans’ Preference.
