Who qualifies for Veterans’ Preference?

Veterans’ Preference may be available to:

  • Veterans who were honorably discharged from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or qualifying reserve components that performed active federal service.
  • Eligible spouses of veterans who have a 100% service-connected disability or are permanently and totally disabled.
  • Eligible surviving spouses of veterans who died in the line of duty and have not remarried.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Preferred Service position and provide the required documentation to be considered for Veterans’ Preference.
