Can supervisors approve partial day leave if an exempt employee has no leave left?

No. Supervisors must not approve partial day leave when an exempt employee has exhausted all leave balances, even with a doctor’s statement.

Partial day unpaid leave is allowed only under the exceptions listed in the policy or when required by federal or state law.

Supervisors must follow the Attendance and Leave Manual and consult HR when an employee lacks enough leave to cover the requested time.
