Non-exempt employees may receive premium compensatory overtime instead of premium cash overtime for hours worked over 40.0 hours in a workweek.
The maximum allowable premium compensatory overtime is:
• 240 hours for non–public safety employees
• 480 hours for public safety employees
Regular and premium compensatory overtime totals are added together. No employee may exceed a combined total of 480 hours unless approved by the Department of Human Resources and the Department of Finance and Administration.
Overtime above the maximum allowed must be paid in cash. Employees should submit the hours as compensatory overtime, and the system will automatically issue cash payment.
When an employee uses compensatory time, the hours are deducted from the premium compensatory overtime balance first. After that balance is exhausted, any additional compensatory time used is deducted from the regular compensatory overtime balance.
