When must employees use their leave before going on leave without pay?

Employees must use their accumulated compensatory, annual, and sick leave before being approved for leave without pay, except for military leave or Division of Claims Administration leave.

For military or Division of Claims Administration leave, employees may:

  • Use all or part of their accumulated annual and sick leave before starting leave without pay, or
  • Be approved to retain their accumulated balances.

Employees must be notified how extended leave without pay could affect their insurance coverage.

Any exception to this policy must be requested in advance from the Department of Human Resources.
