Employees must submit a written request to their appointing authority for approval of special, parental, educational, or personal educational leave.
Extended leave may also apply when using leave through the Sick Leave Bank or the Division of Claims Administration.
Approval of extended leave gives the employee the right to return to their position according to the written approval’s terms, as long as the position still exists.
If a job is so unique that the agency cannot temporarily fill it after reasonable efforts, the agency is not required to reinstate the employee at the end of the leave period.
