When must employees provide medical certification?

•    If the need for leave is foreseeable, employees should submit medical certification before the leave begins.
•    If not foreseeable, the employee must provide it within the timeframe requested by the FMLA Coordinator—at least 15 calendar days, unless impossible due to circumstances (e.g., serious illness).
•    The FMLA Coordinator should request certification when leave is requested or within two business days of the request or the leave starting.
If the FMLA Coordinator questions the appropriateness or duration of leave, they may ask for certification later.
Employees will be informed of the consequences of not providing certification at the time it’s requested.
