Are there special FMLA limits for caring for a service member?

Yes. Employees caring for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness may take up to twenty-six (26) workweeks of leave in a single twelve (12) month period.
If an employee uses the full 26 weeks for military caregiver leave, no additional FMLA leave is available during that period.
When combining military caregiver leave with other FMLA-qualifying reasons, only 12 weeks may be used for reasons unrelated to caring for the service member.
