What counts as a serious injury or illness for a service member or veteran?

•    For current service members, it includes injuries or illnesses incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.
•    For veterans, it includes conditions that:
1.    Continued after active duty or prevent performance of military duties.
2.    Received a VA Service-Related Disability Rating (VASRD) of 50% or higher related to the condition.
3.    Substantially impair the veteran’s ability to work or would do so without treatment.
4.    Led to enrollment in the VA Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.
