What are the possible case results?

When you submit an I-9 in E-Verify, the case may return one of these results:

  • Employment Authorized – Employee’s info matched U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA)/U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) records.
  • Tentative Nonconfirmation (Mismatch) – Info did not match government records; employee may resolve it.
  • E-Verify Needs More Time – U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) needs extra time to verify.
  • Case in Continuance – Employee has contacted SSA or DHS, but more time is needed.
  • Final Nonconfirmation – DHS/SSA could not confirm work authorization.
  • Close Case and Resubmit – Employer must close and start a new case (e.g., when document info is incorrect).
