When must an I-9 be completed by?

Section 1 (employee): Must be completed no later than the first day of work for pay; it may be done any time after the job offer is accepted (pre-boarding is OK).

Section 2 (employer): Must be completed within three business days after the first day of work for pay (e.g., Monday start → due by Thursday). If the job will last fewer than 3 business days, complete Section 2 no later than Day 1.

E-Verify case: Create the case no later than the third business day after the employee starts work for pay.
